couple of questions...volt meter for testing
I've got a pretty new to me 89 Marathon (controller model), had it about a month. Well last Thursday it didn't make it back home without some assistance I've been trying to do some trouble shooting but I know virtually nothing about these things. So far I've tested a few things with a volt meter and I'm just starting to wonder what kind of readings I should get at certain spots? Here's what I have so far...
38 volts at the solenoid going in and coming out. 38 volts at B+ on the controller I have - (negative ) readings at the motor ~ -36 volts, on S1, A2 and S2 I get no reading on the A1...which baffles me because I have 38 volts at B+ on the box. SOOOO... can somebody, anybody point me in the right direction? Where else should I test, F/R switch maybe? What does the M on the controller do, feed power to the F/R switch? Also where the gas pedal linkage comes back there's a little box with some small gauge wires...I think 3 wires run up to the controller, theres a 1,2,3 on the controller that they hook to and one small gauge wire that goes over to the solenoid. What do those do? Thanks. Any help is much appreciated...my 2 1/2 year old misses his golf cart rides around the farm already |

Re: couple of questions...volt meter for testing
The 2 wires of the sivler box(pot Box) short for potentiometer. take them loose at the controller with cart turned off.
Put your meter leads on them on (ohms) and with some one pushing the gas pedal down slow it should read 0-5k at wide open. If not you will need a new one. It should be a nice a steady increase. These are the black and grey wire on #2 & #3 on the controller. #1 on the controller is hot from the key switch and when the gas pedal is depressed the micro on the pot box is ingaged sending hot to controller.Jack up the cart and make it safe. Take a jumper wire from the 2 big selonoid contacts and see if it runs when you hit the gas pedal.. |
