Default Faster electric Yamaha Drive

I have a 2008 Yamaha that goes about 14 mph, I need to make it faster, what is the best way, I need at least 18 -20 mph.

A Yamaha dealer can program your motor to get that. It seems costs vary, at least I've seen people say $75 or $100 or $150. Had mine done when I traded for my cart and it was part of the deal so not sure what my guy charged. Bigger tires will also give you a gain if you're still using stock tires.

The dealer said I would need a new controller to get more speed, how fast does yours go?
Mine is a 2008

Mine is also a 2008. I was told by the guy I bought it from it should make 19 after the change even with stock tires. This was a private business that upgrades Yamaha carts, so it wasn't a true Yamaha dealer. I've read the same here from more then one person.

I went with 22 inch tires, so I'm guessing 20 or 21 mph with bigger tires.

Your dealer is either full of it or he isn't a factory dealer. The upgrade is called the PTV code. Your cart will/should run 19 with stock tires. I had the upgrade done and with 18.5 inch tires it runs 19/20. This code only comes from Yamaha and only sent to an authorized dealer. It will not increase your torque. Yamaha's rules are you have to have lights, side reflectors, and I can't remember if they require brake lights and signals or not. Some dealers might let you slide on those requirements but they are not supposed to. Find another Yamaha dealer.

EVERY Ydre Drive (including your 2008 ) can be programmed to 19mph by a authorized yamaha dealer. There will be a charge, each controller has a unique code that has to be purchased directly from the yamaha factory.

I did the Plumquick Bandit upgrade on my 07 Drive and now it will go 19/20. I'm waiting for Alltrax to release the XCT controller and I spoke with Plowman's Carts who has been testing these and hope to get around 25

Can anybody tell me about the faster DC motors.

A couple weeks ago I was at the place where I got my cart. We were talking about speed and more torque for the big hill I need to climb. He was talking about a motor swap for around $600 that could get me close to 30 mph, and give me much more torque for the big hill.

He said his partner had it on his cart and when it got warm I should stop by and we could run out to his place and they could show me what it did for speed and on the bigger hills.

Read the Yamaha drive with Lithium batteries thread andI thiink I got my answer. I'm going to assume what the guy was telling me about was the D&D motor.
