G16 clutch wabble
I have an 01 g16 that I've been driving for a while now
Seems to have been a little noisy since day one I figured it's the exhaust but it seems to have good and bad days. I have noticed if I grab the clutch by the cover and wiggle it the outer sheave wobbles a little bit, Is this normal? I know that it should be free so it can move in and out But is the wobble while it is all the way out ok? It seems to spin straight without any wobble when I put it in neutral and gas it. I know when I put the clutch on I torqued it to what the book says ( I don't remember what that is without looking it up ) Any i thoughts ? |

Re: G16 clutch wabble
From the sound of things,It sounds like the Bushing in the sheave is worn, and that combined with worn rollers will make it rattle. That Outer sheave slides on the shaft of the clutch, and is greaseable, although it likely hasn't been since new.Try a shot of grease, literally a pump or 2,and see if its' quieter. That will atleast narrow the noise down. You can remove the tin cover and inspect the internals too.If the shaft is worn where the sheave rides,it will need to be replaced as well, and at that point you may as well replace the clutch, since a Full rebuild kit and the major parts will cost as much as or more than a replacement clutch. If you caught it soon enough, you should be able to replace the bushing, seals, and the rollers and have a good clutch that will last quite a while.Hope this helps.

Re: G16 clutch wabble
You can't get better advice then that kend, my only problem is people over grease becouse they see a zerk fitting. Remove the cover, remove the belt, push the clutch towards the engine. Zerk at 12 oclock, 1 shot of grease, rotate clutch so the zerk is at 6 oclock and wipe any excess grease that has excited. You only want grease on the bushings, not onto the weights and roller and cap area.

Re: G16 clutch wabble
Clutch is beyond repair.
It was rebuilt a year ago but the shaft is too worn. Probably shouldn't have been rebuilt but oh well too late. New clutch is on the way. Since the old one is junk Is there any way to get it off without buying the 45.00 tool ? |
