Default Stretch my cart

Newbie to the post... Hi all, I picked up a 93 ezgo gas cart recently and I want to use it for snow removal, so I built me a blade and bought a winch. well that sort of set off a chain reaction. well my question is, I want to stretch the front axel out a inch or two, and I was wondering if I could use heavy duty leaf springs from a 79-88 ezgo, I think I read they are 1 1/2 inches or so longer then my factory springs are.

Ok then.. any idea's on how to stretch the front end without spending a lot of cash...added some old 4 wheeler tires to it that was lying around and made my own lift kit for it. also mounted a harbor freight winch ($49 special). not sure about the location, I'm gonna keep the wheels turning on that one..by the way I see a lot of good mods on here, I hope no one mind's that I copy 1 or two of them, thinking of a roll bar and a short windshield next. thanks again in advance..

Well made a brush guard and mounted the snow blade to try it out, so far so good just need a little snow to try it on. Also took it in the woods to see how it does, did pretty good until I went into the creek bed and got stuck.. glad I had the winch installed, it did a great job on getting me unstuck. not bad at all for $49.00. Oh by the way I bought the springs for a 79/88 marathon, hope they work, if not will be trying to off them without to bad of a hit. I'm starting to think I'm talking to myself, maybe i'll go back to surfing B.G.W. in the shadows again. lol thanks for reading and thanks for the ideas I been picking off the site. again if anyone has any insight in stretching the front end a little, fill free to chime in.

I do not know about the springs pushing the axle out.
I guess you could cut a piece of thick flat bar and cut one end to match the spring.
Bolt that end into the spring mounts. The other end as long as you want cut it off and drill it to be bolted to the spring.
Cut another small piece of bar and use long bolts to use as a backing plate to sandwich the spring. A copy of the spring mount.
You will need to cut and lengthen the steering rod to match.

I would recommend getting 8 hiem joints and 4 lengths of pipe to make a link front end to stiffen the front.
Weld tabs for mounts on the front axle near the bottom ends and one in the center top.
Drill a 2 holes in the frame tward the rear of the frame to mount the 2 arms on the outside 2 on the inside. The inside forms a y, outside are links to the ends.
This keeps the axle square and keeps it from rolling side to side when you turn the wheels.

My cart came with this homemade 8 inch lift and the bars were already in place. They help alot but it still has issues. The steering is effected by bump steer and the steering pushes the axle left right especially on off camber hills. Mine needs the y as an anchor to stop it. A drag link would also work.

I want front brakes as well so i am torn between modding what i already have and putting on a quad a arm front end.

Thanks for the reply..i can see why you need them tie backs on your cart that is some lift on there, I'm sure they are keeping your axel from rolling under, the problem I'm having is the front tires are rubbing just a tiny bit on sharp turns while on ruff terrain,I was trying to keep the lift to a minimum and my thought was a longer leaf spring 1 1/2-2" would give me the clearance I need. well I did order the springs for a 79-88 marathon and I hope they work for my "93".. we will see, by the way what year is your cart and do you have some pics of it so I can see how high it looks..

finished up the seat covers and the sport windshield, starting to run low on welding wire another run to the store. word of advice, don't use hitch for more then a small cart, tried to pull out small willow tree 1", bent the crap out of bumper and hitch, also cracked the bag well, so I removed bumper, 2.5x2.5x1/4 angle on its way.

As far as stretching the front in a bit, I did the same thing on my 88. I took my stock springs to a local truck spring shop and they made two about an 1.5" longer and put just the right about of Bend in them. They know springs, and it was simple for them to do what I was telling them I needed. Your plan should be okay, as long as the springs are longer.

Thanks Morgan, I ordered the 88 springs, hope they do the trick. but if they don't I'll keep your idea in my head as an alternative. thanks again.
