Muffler Surgery

My 84 2pg muffler guts are rattling and it's louder than it should be and I'm worried about it affecting performance and overall flow. I plan on cutting the muffler apart and refabbing the guts rather than buying new. I'm used to welding 2 stroke sled expansion chambers (paper thin) and this is much thicker so by rights should be an easy re-weld. Has anyone else done this and if so any pics? I'm curious to see what kind of baffle is in this thing (straight tube,stepped chambered etc) and wether there is any fiberglass packing etc. before I cut as it may be the deciding factor of how i cut this apart and how I fix it. I'm sure I can't be the only one to resurrect a muffler as y'all know they ain't cheap. Thanks. John
