Default 1986 G3 Forward Solenoid went bad

Hello all,

My forward solenoid went bad. I see the new replacement. All the posts seem to match except I need to crimp on a different connector on the small wire.

The site I am looking at says that I would need to replace both. I don't see the reason why. Any thoughts?

I attached pics of my current solenoids and the new one I haven't ordered yet.

Just saw this on another site. Looks like I mount it opposite, easy enough.

NOTE: The "O" stamped on the case of this solenoid designates the circuit "OPEN" end. When installed next to an original Yamaha solenoid this solenoid should face the OPPOSITE way of the Yamaha solenoid so that both OPEN ends are side by side.

are you sure that your carts not an 86 G1?

there are rebuild kits for the stock solenoids although I'm not sure whats involved in rebuilding them.

G3 is a sun classic with a g1 powertrain... If you get them matched uped it should work fine

Positive it's a G3 as the VIN says so, lol.

Yes, was looking at the rebuild kits until I pulled out the wire on the coil when I was going to inspect it. Apparently it is soldered to the external tabs. Live and learn the hard way

Yes, already ordered the new model one. The poles are backwards but I can figure that out when wiring it up, well I am hoping I do

good to know. Those solenoids and what part of the engine and air cleaner i could see was ringing bells as a g1 for me.

Here are some pics when it was still in the Tow yard before I bought it. Probably would have cleared things up.
