Default New battery for gas precedent ?

Can I put a regular 12v battery in this thing? It's got a weird battery in it now, genesis brand. Can I replace it with something from my local auto parts store ? Thanks

What’s the part number or group number on the genesis? Some people will just put any old battery in as long as it’s a battery and “it works”. To some extent that’s true, but the correct battery should last a very long (5-7years) time in these.

Pretty sure it should have a Group 70 size side post battery in it.

Has someone cut the original cable terminals off?
The cable ends should have 3/8” eyelet terminals.
The bolts that hold the cables to the battery should be 3/8-16 x1/2”. I like to use stainless for those. Usually golf cart repair shops will carry the correct battery and have the correct terminal bolts.

This battery is a genesis np35-12b. It looks original, the ends and bolts. They don't look like they've been cut. Should I stick with this same battery ?

That’s not original as far as I know. As I said earlier, it should have a battery like the one I linked above.

That genesis is an AGM battery and while that type is useful for certain things, if it’s not reliably starting the cart, it’s probably undersized and getting the correct battery will be better in the long run.
