You can remove it but splitting the trans is a big job, most people don't they just remove the lever and leave it. Few if any have issue with it though some say it can fail with a lot of use at high speeds. My G9 is still in there had it with no governor since 99 and last summer did 41gps with it on 22s, never had a problem with it. I do have synthetic lube in the trans and engine, a clone 420 with vegas cam and rod and other parts. Pretty much a vc460. I trail ride it and yardwork, but that said I rarely run over 30mph range in normal use it gets too bumpy offroad or not enough open space to, as I rarely run a road or 25mph speed limit on roads I do get on.
Yes the valve needs to be fixed open or connect linkage that opens it with throttle. You can take the head off and have about .030 cut off it that helps them, you can take the crank pickup loose and advance it that helps but will make reverse slightly sluggish. But it will run better and still be stock with those things. Of course if you are low on compression that will hurt power. |
