I don’t know what it means that it turns, but it does.

I’m guessing there is a bearing inside the motor that is shot. Really don’t want to drive the cart like it is. Thinking I’ll start taking the motor apart and try to save it before I buy a replacement.

You might be hearing the armature scrubbing the field coils, which would be normal with the motor off. The motor only has the tail bearing and uses the input shaft bearing for the head end.

Well thats better than a $900 motor.

I take it that this bearing/speed sensor is inside the casing?

That 2013 will have a motor speed sensor not a bearing encoder.

Thats right. If you look at the picture of the open motor you can actually see the speed sensor. This cart is a Curtis, not a Danaher.

Default 2013 EZGO RXV No Go

Prepare to hear simple words. I don’t know all the names of these parts.

Got the motor apart. Cleaned the inside and outside walls. End bearing is quiet and smooth. Though if I push left to right on the center piece, there is a little bit of play on the end. Not much, but probably enough to cause a wobble on the other end causing the internals to touch the side walls. Thinking about replacing that bearing if I can find it just because.

Center piece. Knocked off the surface “rust” with a steel brush. Did the same to the inside walls.

This motor has been taken off before or at least attempted. It was only being held on by 3 bolts, not 6. The other 3 bolts were sheared off. Gotta find a way to extract them. Tried drilling pilot holes but I must have the wring type of drill bit as I’m not getting very deep.

Hard to find time to work when you have a golf cart to fix.

If that bearing has some sideways wobble in it definitely replace. Should be relatively inexpensive. Looks like an abnormally lot of rust in that motor for a 2013. Think it might have seen a flood ? Flood carts are also prone to sonic weld failure. I'm thinking you cured one of those.
