Volt meter choice
Anyone have any good luck with installing a reliable, accurate volt meter to monitor the batteries? Thanks.

Re: Volt meter choice
Go with a digital volt meter you can purchase one for https://www.cartsunlimited.net. Don't wast your money on a bar graft type not accurate at all.

It depends on how much you are prepared to pay. The Victron BMV-712 is the best if you want more than a standard voltmeter.

Re: Volt meter choice
I'm new here - great site with tons of good information! I have an Onward and just replaced the factory bar meter (that never displayed less than full charge) with this:
amazon.com/gp/product/B085DKR34W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 For under $20 it displays accurate voltage (digital and graph) and has the ability to set the voltage parameters for Low (0%) and (High 100%) percentage, thus giving an accurate representation of useable battery voltage. I set mine for 49.0V - 51.1V so the meter will read not only the actual voltage but lets me know when I near 60% (49V) of my 48V pack. It also has an adjustable time-delay OFF. Don't know if this is right for everybody but it suits my needs perfectly. |

Re: Volt meter choice
I bought and installed (double sided taped to dash) one similar to the one in your reply JohnP3. It was not permanently mounted because I was considering the best way to cut a rectangle in the dash needed to mount it.
Overall it did a pretty good job, my one criticism is the plug that goes into unit was poorly made/not robust enough. At one point the +48 volt wire separated and shorted against the ground. I have since purchased a different voltmeter. I am not replacing an existing voltmeter and need to create a mounting space on the dash. It is easier to create a round mounting location than rectangular. Below are photos of my speedometer install. The view voltmeter will go right under the speedometer in a round hole created by the appropriate sized drill bit. Just sharing my experience. |

Re: Volt meter choice
Installed this one - about a month ago:
https://www.amazon.com/AiLi-Battery-...age=en_US&th=1 It is bit more (around $40), but it also shows A/Ah. This has helped me with figuring out few things on my cart. Full disclosure, the instructions it came with were not very helpful to me. But there is a good video that helped me with install: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hD5XoKqMFo |
