Re: Piston hitting head after rebuild
Hello Tykuhn,
All of you a very good and happy new year / 2011 from the other side off the ocean. As far as i know, the "thing between piston and cranck" of a 350 and 295 are the same. The piston is different and has diference in the bolt place. Also the cranck is different. The piston has a diff bore. And i heard something about a difference in MCI and non MCI types. MCI has the exhaustmanifold IN the head. As i see it, you have the wrong cranck. My engine is a non MCI 350, see the pics in my avatar. Watercooled and aircooled are the same engines at the inside If you have more Questions, i can't answer them til Monday. Tommorow, 2 januari, i hope to have my 56 th. birthday together with my family visiting Holiday on Ice in Münster Germany and a diner afterwards. (Yammi Yammi Yammi) Benno |

Re: Piston hitting head after rebuild
Thank you for checking. I have found one for about $200 new. I think this is the way to go. Happy New Year to you.

Re: Piston hitting head after rebuild
When you say both journals are crap on your old crank, is it just aluminum from the old rod. If so, just clean it with muriatic acid & polish with emery cloth. Most cranks can be saved. Just make sure to get all the high spots off the journals, low spots won't hurt anything. This will get you running. Not as good as a new crank but will save you some money.

Re: Piston hitting head after rebuild
56 I don't need to repair the crank. I put in a Duromax. I was checking it for tykuhn. It's scrap iron to me.

Re: Piston hitting head after rebuild
Here is what I have determined so far. Right or wrong this is the result of my research. The Crankshafts are different between 295cc & 350cc and the pistons have a different placement where the connecting rod attaches to the piston...350cc is higher than 295cc. The Head is a different size and apparently the cylinders are larger on the 350cc. So I am of an opinion that maybe the only thing that is interchangeable are the rods and that has not come to light as yet. Anyway, I ordered a 295cc crankshaft and should be getting it sometime this week.
Thank you everyone for your input. I'll post a final note if/when this thing is running again! |

Re: Piston hitting head after rebuild
Turns out it was a 350 crank. I have just used it to rebuild a 350 motor and it worked great.
