Default Hard to rotate engine

Just bought a 95 gas DS. The starter will not turn the engine over. I can turn the engine by hand by the clutch, but it does have a lot of resistance. With the belt removed off of the starter, the starter spins itself easily. During tear down, I noticed that the large white wire going to the starter was burnt. Do you think the motor has gotten tight causing the starter to go bad or is the starter just too weak?

Can you tell how old the battery is? The starter could easily be overheating trying to turn that motor over.

I was actually using the battery out of my boat that has been on a battery tender. Pretty sure that should have had. The CCA's to spin it... All it did was slightly move (<1/16) of a turn, then the large black jumper wire from casing to end of starter started to smoke. (Within About 3 sec)

Yeah that's because the sg is requiring way too much cranking amps off the battery. Appears you may be tearing that motor down.

Yeah she's stripped down now. Going to cruise through the sponsors of this site and look at my options for machine work and rebuild kits. Maybe that "BB conversion is in order? :)
