Default Smoking engine

New to the forum and first post. But have read hundreds of replies for help. Thanks to all that help.

I bought a 93 club car fe290 motor. Smokes after running for about 5 seconds then continues. Doesnt get better or worse. Also smells like oil. I have rebuilt ezgo robins but not these so looking for a little advise to rebuild or not. It has 150 compression cold and after running for 5 minutes. starts and runs great. I pulled the valve cover to check valves and noticed the valve seals are gone. Also you can see the exhuast tip is coated with raw oil in the muffler. I was thinking about just putting on valve seals. Has anybody ran into this or think there may be other problems. It seems like a lot of oil just for the valve seals being gone. Also put in a new plug and it was black after a minute. top of piston looks oily and the old plug had lots of build up. Thanks for all the help

Default Re: Smoking engine

Sorry hit enter in the middle of this repply. Ok I guess the 93 motors didnt come with valve seals on the exhaust side. The valve guide for the exhaust valve is longer than the intake. Anyways looks like im going to rebuild. I looked like the new valve guides and it appears they look the same lenght and come with two valve seals. I know the 94s came with to valve seals. Who has pressed these out and was it difficult. Also do you really have to ream the new valve guides to fit the valve. thanks
