Default replacement ignition coil

On this 1989 Marathon 2 cycle I had replaced all the electronic components with new ones. Now I think the coil has gone bad. I do not want to spend $60-plus to try a new coil, so wonder if I can use a generic 12v coil to try it ... or will that risk burning up other stuff in the process?

This one that I now suspect is labled "5121 ignition coil," no other markings, so I have no idea of the campacity/rating of it. Anyone able to advise me on this? thanks for helping,
Bruce
