84 ezgo marathon 2 stroke robin 2pg running barely moving
Hello. I am new to the golf cart community as a buddy gave me his 1984 ezgo marathon, 2 stroke golf cart last year. Over the winter I rebuilt the Robin engine and she has been running great until today. We were in the 4th of July parade and it ran the whole way. As we were coming home we heard a small pop as I pressed on the gas and the cart will barely move. In fact it sort of crawls? Would it of overheated? It really wasnt too far of a run time... any help would be appreciated. Happy 4th of July.

Welcome to BGW!
Does it start up ok? If not, check the seals on the crankshaft. If it starts ok, does it rev up like it used to? |

No its not really starting. It's trying to. Do you think I might have blown a seal. Is there an easy way to check those.

Rear wheels in the air (jack stands). Step on the gas and spray some brake cleaner or wd behind the drive clutch where the crank enters the case with accelerator depressed. You can also try the front by spraying inside the flywheel housing but it's a little harder to get to. If the RPMs change or the sound sounds like it's revving louder, you have a blown seal. Was the pop a backfire or.....

Ok Thank you. I will try that. It really didn't sound like a back fire. I thought maybe it was at first but then just wouldn't move. It did run through the whole parade.

I too would vote for a crankshaft seal. The same happened to me and on close examination I could see the spring from the seal had flown out and was right by the clutch. If it is the seal you would be well advised to replace them both and use a little Loctite Blue to keep them in place.

Was the parade ride at a slow speed most of the time? May have caused excess heat to push the seals over the edge.

Yes it was. Crap. I will look at them. I just replaced them too. Oh well. Thank you.
