Re: 88 marathon carburetor question
The governor on these is really just a nuisance, most have been removed long ago. In stock form, they won't over-rev or hurt themselves unless you're holding it on the floor downhill or running for really long periods of time at full throttle. It's fine to have it unhooked - I was worried about that on the first one I encountered and Morgan walked me through why it was alright.

Re: 88 marathon carburetor question
Will a '88 carb fit on a '87 without too much trouble and is it worth it?. Exhaust too?
Seen '88 carbs on E*** for bout $40. Regards, Jeff |

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...b-exhaust.html Personally, I think the gains of bolting on the 88 carb and exhaust are worth it. The carb and muffler can be had new, but the pipe that goes from the head to the 88 muffler is the "unicorn" of this swap. It is very hard to come by and nobody reproduces that piece, finding them used is rare. |

Re: 88 marathon carburetor question
^What 93 Said^
The difference isn't only in general "power", the 1988 carts seem to rev faster and are just all-around a peppier motor (as well as the 2hp actual "gain") ... If You can find that exhaust pipe, swapping that carb and muffler is definitely the way to go. My 1988 ran out all day at 28mph with a 5" lift and 22" tires (no other mods other than the HEI Ignition swap) and accelerated FAR better than a stock 2-cyl Robins ... |
