Question Purchasing non-OEM parts - Opinions wanted

Seems with older '80's 2 cycles there isn't much in the way of OEM parts so everything you can buy is aftermarket. What I've found looking at starter / generators is a wide variety of prices. Has everyone found it more to do with warranty options vs. price? Don't want to go cheap if I'm continuing to work on my cart. Also, is there a favorite shopping spot on the web besides EBay?
Any experience with Rareelectrical or EMS Global Direct?

Besides OEM parts, the biggest price differences are based on profit margins.

I'd be inclined to use a good, local rebuild shop, if there's one in your area.

Interesting point. But how do they rebuild without using the same parts aftermarket sellers do?

A local shop with good reputation is less likely to use inferior bits, IMO.

Or, brush up on the procedure, and roll your own.
The tractor guys have a lot of info. Not a 2-way on them, but same principles involved.
