Default gas cart wont start

I have a 2004 club car precedent gas 290. Heres my problem, the other night I parked the cart in the drive way and it ended up raining on it. When I went to put it in the garage it would not start it just clicks. I have done some trouble shooting and the battery is good, and the solenoid opens as it should and sends power to the starter/gen. Could the problem be the starter/gen got wet or even the brushes are just bad and its coincidence that it happened after the rain. I have pretty good mechanical knowledge and am assuming the starter/gen has to engage to make the cart run. Any help with this would be appreciated and thanks in advance on how to trouble shoot the starter/gen or other places to look.

if the starter gen is getting power (as it should) I would try rolling it backward and starting multiple times. that is the first sign of bad brushes, sort of like a dead spot

ya I pulled the starter/gen and the brushes were completely shot and two had actually come apart. I have a new set ordered and will let you know if the cart runs.

I replaced the brushes and it runs like a top now. The brushes were completely worn out. Thanks for the replies as usual.
