Measure all of your individual battery voltages. 43V is not going to work well on a 48V cart! Something is wrong there and you need to figure out if it's a bad battery or an improperly reading meter.

So measure the voltage at each battery, and it should be 8v, correct? If they are all at 8v, then the meter is wrong?

They should be over 8V if they are fully charged. Look at the voltage charts in this forum. 8V batteries run above 8V!

Now I confused myself. I tested all batteries and they were 8.4 or 8.5v. I put the volt meter on the charging receptacle and showed 50v there. I tested at my volt meter that's installed on the cart, and my reading there concurred my volt meter I was testing with, 43v.

Let's try this. Post a good picture of your batteries & cables, so we can verify its hooked up right. Here's a example of a good pic, with lazy installation of cables (cables interfere with cap removal on more than half). Not saying you have the same batteries, or poorly routed cables. Just an example of the type of pic that would help us (we can easily see all the wires & connections, and battery orientation).

Sounds like your batteries are fine but your meter must not be connected to all of them. It is missing one of them.

I'm not sure how that would be. The volt meter is installed after the ignition switch, so it's only on if the key is on.

There's only 43v at the solenoid directly from the batteriess

What's voltage here? Probes at these 2 points.
