Yamaha G9 rev limiter removal in ignitor
I have a 1993 G9 Vin# JG5 207130. It was manufactured without a speed limiter on the rear axle. Evidently there is a rev limiter in the ignitor box. Is there anyway to delete the rpm limiter or install an ignitor without a rev limiter? Thanks

Re: Yamaha G9 rev limiter removal in ignitor
A g9 does not have one, the G2 does. Unless you have a very early G9 maybe, or someone changed it. There is only one wire that needs to be changed to swap them I read here. My 2 G9 have no limiters. They do valve float at around 4500 anyway. Mine is a 92 and does not have one. The limiter will make it cut out at high rpm.
They all have a speed governor in the rear axle the throttle runs through, which can be modded or deleted various ways as posted here. The fastest I ever ran my G9 stock engine was 31 on pavement, with the wind at my back but was on level ground. Most days 30 and only 28 on dirt roads. Those tires measure 23 high, I don't run them soft. My clone engine ran 38 gps if you want speed you should look into that, I put a cam and rod in it and hit 41 gps now but I never go that fast normally. Though HS gears will give you 10mph too pretty much about the same as 22-23 tires do. |
