1999 Yamaha G16 Electric Cart, Looking for Speed options
I have a 1999 electric Yamaha G16 cart, I called my local shop and asked about making it go faster. They said they would have to call Yamaha and have them reprogram it. Is that true or is there another way to make it faster myself, without paying a grand for a new motor and everything else. I have tested all the batteries and all but 2 tested good but I may still just put all new ones in because they are 4 years old.

You can’t reprogram a G16. You will need a motor and controller.

PM ScottyB. cartsunlimited.net. I’d do an Alltrax SR48400 and an admiral or D&D motor. 48 volts will also give you a speed improvement, but you will need a new controller for that for sure.

And if two of your batteries are bad replace them all. It’s a great time to jump to 48v.

I agree - I just upgraded my Yamaha G16 after the 6 lead cells had died and I started researching Lithium packs, 48V etc and it snowballed to a full cart overhaul. I ended up with an Alltrax SR48500, new 400A solenoid, new heavy duty F&R switch (all 3 from Scotty) and a 48V lithium pack built from Nissan Leaf cells. Some hurdles to climb getting it all accomplished - and i couldn’t have done it without pingeye3 and some others on these forums - but well worth it. My cart has 23 inch tires and a 5 inch lift, but stock motor, and am getting it to 22-23 MPH. |
