Wet golf cart, won't start
I just purchased a 2008 Electric Yamaha golf cart. It ran great--batteries are good and fully charged--until I power washed it. I did not wash into the battery compartment located under the seat. I also did not wash into the compartment where the solenoid, controller, etc are located. Instead, I washed underneath the cart from the front and rear while it was sitting on the driveway.
After I finished washing and drying it, I turned the key on and depressed the gas pedal--nothing! I heard an occasional 'click', 'unclick' sound. Upon further investigation (by turning the cart into 'tow', then 'run' mode), I heard the click sound again; By feeling the part, I found it to be the solenoid. I did not test it on a multi-meter as I ran out of time. I have ordered a replacement solenoid and am hopeful it is the issue but I'm worried it's not the issue. I'm wondering if the controller is bad. Or is it the motor? How do I know what the issue is? |

Re: Wet golf cart, won't start
Do you have a buzzer with the key on and the switch turned to reverse?

Re: Wet golf cart, won't start
When the key is turned to the 'on' position and the switch is turned to reverse it does make the loud constant beeping (warning) sound.
Thanks for the reply. |

Re: Wet golf cart, won't start
Seems like the controller is ok since you have the solenoid click when the switch is turned to run. And you have the reverse buzzer. Maybe the gas pedal switch was ruined. You can try using a meter on it to see if it closes when you press the gas. Also could be the throttle sensor. The switch is what tells the controller that you're trying to go, and the throttle sensor tells it how much. I'm leaning toward the switch at this point.

Thanks much for the advice! I'll take a look for replacement parts.

Please test them before replacing! They are not cheap; though not terribly expensive.

Re: Wet golf cart, won't start
It might even start working in a day or so when it dries out.
