Default Roof Lowering Hinges RXV Modification

Well with the dilemma of not being able to put the golf cart in the Toyhauler since we have a loft for the kids I had to research a modification for the roof. Found some brackets on line but they were pretty expensive and I hear they are very loud and rattly during movement since the center pins don't grip the uprights. Roof Lowering Hinges Plus at $190.00 I thought I could make some myself for a lot less.

First I started a Lowes with some thick aluminum. I cut them to size and drilled my 4 holes in each. I used 3/8" Stainless bolts with castle nuts and plastic washers for the pivoting holes and wing nuts for the ones I will remove to lower roof.

I then attached them to the cart with c-clamps and drilled all my holes in the roof tube. After all brackets were attached I took one off at a time and got the center position between the middle holes and marked a 45 degree angle for cut. Once I was done with one cut I attached the bracket back and then went to the next one and repeated.

Once all the uprights were cut I marked each one and took off to be painted. I also painted all the uprights on the cart just to keep things from rusting. I was worried about the back poles as they are at a angle but things worked out great.

I went ahead and painted the outside bolt heads just so you can't see it from a distance. My wife kept asking me if it was going to work and what I was going to do if it didn't. I told her I guess I would just get another top if I screw this one up.

At least we were able to take it camping this weekend without having to put it in the back of a truck or trailer.

My wife wanted to put some cloth socks on each upright just so they wouldn't damage anything during transport.

Not a professional job but it works for us......

Hope this helps someone else with the same problem we had.

At first I didn't understand the angle cuts, but once I saw how it works, I like it.

Looks pretty easy to figure out. Only thing I see that is somewhat critical are the last two holes. The first two aren't as critical, but the last two, I assume, create a tight fit with all four uprights.
