Replacement battery tray
Day 1 of my project. I’ve removed all the batteries, documented all the wiring and then started to use a wire brush on the tray.
However, it’s a little thin in a couple places so I think replacement is the way to go. I’ve found an aluminum tray on amazon with good reviews but wasn’t sure if others had a recommendation of where to buy. I’m not finding them at the sellers I’ve looked at so far. |

Re: Replacement battery tray
Most of us here recommend steel over aluminum trays.

Re: Replacement battery tray
My grandmother purchased one a few years back from shopezgo.com. Direct OEM, bolt-in replacement.

Re: Replacement battery tray
I’ve used the steel ones and the aluminum ones. They are extremely difficult to install because of the two bolts in the front which are under the body and impossible to get to unless you take the body off. They are usually way too rusted to remove.
I’ve gone to just fabricating them at this point. Much faster than removing the body. |

Re: Replacement battery tray
Thanks. If I go with a steel replacement, does the rear body have to come off or is it possible to get those front tabs slid under and the rear in place as well with the body on?

Re: Replacement battery tray
You can do it without removing the body.
Luke is right about those rusty bolts. I had to grind mine off to remove them, then replaced with SS hex bolts. I just had to be careful grinding around the body, but certainly doable. |

Re: Replacement battery tray
I have never once removed rear body for tray swap. But having the 2 seat mounting pads removed from the body does allow just a little more flexibility, which will help.

Re: Replacement battery tray
Good to know! Although, I'm not seeing how to get the front lip off and then back on without removing the body.

Re: Replacement battery tray
It's a puzzle for sure, but I promise it can totally be done with body in place. A prybar for the last step is your friend, and can be used with no body damage.
