Yamaha Motor Confusion
Hello and thanks in advance,
I recently installed a 4' block lift as well as 22' wheels on my 2014 electric Yamaha drive. After driving it for a bit I noticed that the pedal input was very limited, it basically only had two speeds, crawl, and full speed. My theory about this is that the bigger tires are causing the motor to think it is going slower and in turn the motor overcompensates? Also after driving at this high speed for a bit, I noticed every few seconds the cart would sort of lose power, causing a slight jolt. I am worried I may be burning out my motor because of this and am looking for some advice as to how I could potentially program the motor or do something to solve this potential problem. Thank you all for your help, it means a lot. |

Re: Yamaha Motor Confusion
If your motor is high mileage, you probably are burning it up. And motors & factory yamaha controllers arent programmable in the ways you describe. You can verify the motor speed sensor by pushing/rolling the cart, and checking for reverse buzzer beep & resistance to motion.

Re: Yamaha Motor Confusion
Thank you, it turned out when installing the lift kit the speed sensor became disconnected, causing the motor to only have one speed. Hoping this might help someone else solve their problem.

Re: Yamaha Motor Confusion
The stock Hitachi motor may not last long with the larger tires though. They are pretty weak and they overheat easily. You should think about investing in a higher torque replacement motor.
