I have a 88 what other year 2pg's will work?

I lost the crank to my engine in my 1988 Marathon. I found a good running engine but the guy is not sure of the year maybe a 84 he thinks. The picture shows a black fan shroud on the engine. I see there seems to be a lot of 88 specific parts so I want to make sure I don't drive 4 hours roundtrip for nothing. Will other year 2pg engines fit in my 88 chassis? I have all the 88 parts so if I do need to interchange some that is fine but I just want to make sure the engine will bolt in and the primary clutch will work as well. Thanks
