Default Coil & Igniter swap...

Any reason a person could not replace a Coil & Igniter on a '92 CC (separate parts) with a newer combined Coil Igniter? I would hate to replace one this year and then have to do the other next year. I believe it's cheaper to get the combined unit rather then 2 separate parts too.

I see no reason for it not to work. If the connections are the same should be fine.

Thanks!
Just wanted to make sure the bolt/magnet pattern was not different or the pickup gap was designed for different spacing or some such non-sense.

The one piece coil is for the clockwise motor.

Question Re: Coil & Igniter swap...

Ohhh. That might change the spark timing, not sure if the spark happens as magnet enters the field or exits or is dead center over it. Anyone done this before??? Thought I had seen some mention of this before, maybe time for some searching the posts...

Shadowman,
Oh, I was thinking that the 92 had separate units. I have not even looked yet. (or tested anything yet) just know the wife called me from the other end of the driveway and said the cart quit. Went down and looked, no spark / weak spark, said "****", towed it back to the garage and have been waiting for a break to start checking why. Thanks!

jim i,m sorry you do have an ignitor located on rear of bracket that holds rpm limitor........the combo came out in late 96..........my bad........if it is a spark issue you,ll be ahead of the game if you change the rpm limitor and ignitor as a pair as long as wiring and micros are ok..................................

Thumbs up Re: Coil & Igniter swap...

Ok, found out tonight I won't be buying any parts just yet. Somehow, wire came disconnected from igniter. Squeezed the plug a little bit put it back on and all is well in the world. I doubt I would replace the rev limiter if it goes bad anyway, I grew up before all that electronic stuff and never blew up a motor on any go-cart/mini-bike/snow-mobile/dirt-bike or field car, so I think we'll be ok. Just need to teach the wife and kid... Besides it does have a Governor.
