The oil light will only illuminate when the level is off. It doesn't work like a car which turns off when pressure is sensed as the engine turns so no, it shouldn't be on at all unless there's a problem.

OK Thanks. That makes sense being its a sensor rather than a sender. I guess the light side of the wire was grounding somewhere before since the sensor end has always been unhooked and the light wasn't on before?
