Default G16 compression test

I did a compression test on my new (to me) golf cart. Not sure if I'm doing it right but when I install the compression tester and hold the gas pedal it spins and the compression only comes up to about 60lbs. but if I stop and start the starter a couple 4-6 times I can get it up to 105lbs. Do I have 60lbs or 105lbs.

Thanks

Suppose to hold throttle open, then 4 compression strokes with the starter. That's the correct way.

to hold throttle open on a golf cart do you just hold the gass pedal down as it turns over? When I did the compression test I could hold the gas pedal down for a bit and it would't get any higher than 30-60lbs but if I bumped the starter it would go up to 105 forward and reverse....I think my compression tester is good? Thoughts?

Thanks

You have to perform the test the proper way to have a comparable base line reading. 285 cc motors are suppose to have 165/175 pounds compression when tested this way. A G16 motor, I don't know if its the same or not.

G16 are the same, should be in the 155-175 range. Do the test at WOT like Mike suggests, but I would make sure the valves are set correctly first ( four thousandths cold). If it's still low squirt a little oil in the cylinder and re-test. If the compression comes up you know you need rings, if not you may have a stuck or bad valve.........

my 1999 g16 has 150 lbs of compression dry and 152 wet ,the place I bought it told me to check the compression when I complained about it "eating" fuelpumps (on # 4) in 18 months. It runs good and don't any oil , I'm thinking of putting an electric pump on it. any advice ?

The genuine Mikuni pump is probably your best bet...

Yep, factory fuel pumps very rarely give any trouble at all.
