Default Gas ezgo problem

New to this forum. Have an 84 gas ezgo. Replaced carb. Now surges and chugs under load and backfires when easing off accelerator. Replaced throttle cable and governor cable with new carb.

sounds like your getting too much fuel into the motor. download a manual from this site and make sure your cables are adjusted to factory specs and the jet settings on the carb are turned out to the proper position. Sounds like your close but not quite there... BTW, dont ride it or let anyone else ride it if its backfiring.... you'll tear the motor up.

Backfiring while letting off the accelerator is caused by the throttle plate not closing all the way. That's why a spring is slid over the end of the throttle cable to give it a little extra push.

The governor is also more trouble than it is worth, but that is up to you.

Thanks. I don't have that spring but I think I can add one. Will it work ok without the goner or hooked up?

This is the manual you can use. Take the spring out of an ink pen, and slide it over your cable. There also isn't very much you can adjust on the carburetor.

The two most common mods, are disconnect the governor, and get rid of the oiling system. Mix your own oil/gas at 1 ounce of oil to every 1 gallon of fuel.
