Best year older ezgo?
Hey guys, I'm a yamaha guy (so far). I went to pick up some parts off a gentleman and he must've had over 50 of these old ezgo's in hos yard/woods. I'm considering buying (4) in hopes of making (2) good ones. He said he hates ezgo and just knows they are gas not electric. Could somebody fill me on what I should look for? I'm pretty sure they are Marathons from what I've read. Her is the only pic I took and I zoomed in to try to help, but I assure you there are at least 50 of these.

Re: Best year older ezgo?
pre-86 are points ignition and internal starters, next to impossible to find some crucial parts for. 86-87 are the early 2Pg 9hp with external starter, easy to work on and cheap parts, fun carts. 1988 was the only year of the "High Output" 2pg (an extra 2hp) and again, super easy to work on, most parts cheap and readily available plus the most powerful and fastest of the 2-strokes. 89-91 were the 3pg motor, parts available but some (exhaust mainly) are debilitatingly expensive - once set up and running good though they ARE reliable.

Re: Best year older ezgo?
Oh my.... That looks like Marathon Heaven!
Those carts are all two stroke if they are gas and they will be powered by a 244cc engine. They look to be pre-88 by what I see on that once front cowl. Some might be newer. The serial number tag will tell you the year, what you're looking for is the last two numbers in the manufacturer's code. For example, my 1982 3 wheeler is code J0382. IF he has a 1988 gas Marathon, grab that one for sure. 1988 was a one off year for the two stroke carts and had a larger carburetor (33% larger!) and high flow exhaust. You'll be able to identify it by the muffler standing up on the right driver's side of the engine and having a 90 degree inlet ON TOP as opposed to the other years where the inlet is straight into the side near the top. Stay away from 1983 carts, no bueno. The newer ones with the starter/generator externally mounted are somewhat better IMO. Can't get parts for the older internal S/Gs anymore. EDIT: Beaten to the punch by Brew!!! |

Thanks Brew! I should have proofread my post though. The right driver's side??? As opposed to what, the wrong driver's side?
Should've been the driver's side, between the engine and fuel tank. |

I could really use a decent set of rear fender guards, if you can snag a pair :)

Personally, I'm not sure my middle-aged heart could take stumbling into a field of Marathons like that .... Any chance You might share the location and contact info after You pick the litter, so to speak?

Do I see a white G1 in the middle of those green marathons? Just looking at the hip restraints and angle of steering wheel.

Re: Best year older ezgo?
Yes you do. I see the front cowl of it.
I can't even imagine how quick I'd have a trailer there if I found all those two strokes in one place near me. |
