Default Rear End Noise

Hey All,

I've got a pair of matching 2008 Club Car Precedent electric carts, one has a whining noise which I think is coming from the differential. When I jacked up the back I can feel a bit of a drag when the tires are rotated, I took the wheels off, removed the snap ring and axles, each side looks to be in good shape but the noise continued so I'm pretty sure it is the differential.

The axles in both carts were submerged and I can tell by the fluid that the cart with the noise allowed water into the differential. Each cart runs well and reaches the same speed with no issues. I've changed the fluid a couple of times and the noise has reduced quite a bit but it is still there.

Does anyone know how big a job it is to remove the differential and what parts could be damaged?

Bearings rusted most likely. With good gear oil, I would run it as long as I could.

If you haven't switched to synthetic do it now.

Thanks Guys

Will switch to synthetic in both carts.

If I did tackle replacing the bearings are they pressed in?

I use Kendall full synthetic 30w...works great. The bearings are pressed on the axle shaft and the axles are held in by a "c" clip that takes a strong snap-ring tool to get it out...not one of those cheep ones.

Thanks again

I switched to synthetic and continue to see (hear) good results. I've swapped out the gear oil 3 or 4 times and will run it for a while before changing again.

Is the oil in the differential motor oil or gear oil? Thanks.

In 2008 there was a bad batch of input shaft bearings on a lot of models. This created a "whine" when driving. We replace a lot of them.
