Default 86 Marathon; throttle system, cart won't go slow

Have always had some issues with this cart going slow. Have read other posts about a spring behind the butterfly that's supposed to push it open. Going to try to post some pics of my cart. My butterfly doesn't move as the throttle cable is cut/broken before it gets there. The accelerator linkage moves the throttle cable but as pics show, not connected to butterfly. What is the accel. linkage actuating and how is motor getting correct air mix. Jacked up rear end, ran cart while moving butterfly, no change. Cart has plenty of power/speed. Just won't go slow.

Last pic of top of engine. What do I have? I'm confused as to how to get cart to slow crawl.

The throttle is spring loaded wide open. The cable attached to the gas pedal is supposed to pull the throttle closed. Your picture shows that it isn't connected.

Your picture is showing that the carburetor is in the wide open position right now.

With everything shut off, push on your gas pedal to see which cable moves. It will get longer when pressed That is the only one that needs to be hooked up.

The cable will go through the slot like the pictures shown below. I would also like to see a picture of the data tag on the passenger side of the cart, and a picture of your muffler.

EDIT: I studied your picture a little better. It appears that the only cable you have hooked up goes to the oil injection pump. You really should disconnect that entire system, plug the oil hole in the intake, and premix your gas with 1 ounce of oil per gallon of gas.

Your choke cable is connected properly on the aft side of the carb. The third cable that you are calling the linkage is the governor. You don't need it either.
The only cable that you absolutely need is the one that is not connected. That is a direct link to the gas pedal.

Your first post says that you ran the cart on jacks, and moved the butterfly by hand with no change.

You now need to look through the carburetor venturi, and make sure your throttle plate is still there. You should see a choke plate with a horizontal shaft, and a throttle plate with a vertical shaft.

Thanks for the replies! I just figured out what you said, The throttle cable is not attached (broke) so whenever the cart goes it goes basically wide open but it does seem to have SOME throttle response but mostly in go fast mode. Seems that I only have the upper half of the throttle response. Will order the correct cable tonight. My question somewhat remains that how do I have ANY throttle except completely wide open?

Thanks again,
JB
