Re: D&D ES-58 or AMD 7114 Beast
SEHunter, I'm assuming you have a good battery pack to support the amp draw these custom motors (plumquick, D&D, etc.) require to perform to their peak correct?

OK thanks.
How long have you been running the ES-58? Is the FSIP non programmable/adjustable by the user? |

Re: D&D ES-58 or AMD 7114 Beast
Yes, they're Trojan Rangers, just over a year old. I can mozy through the woods all day and be down 1 bar on my Curtis meter, then punch it and pop the front wheels off the ground with the old motor. I have nothing bad to say about PQ, Robby was great in every way. No clue why the motor felt so weak. Still bugs me. Makes me want to buy a FSIP 700 just to appease my conscience but I'll try the D&D first.

Re: D&D ES-58 or AMD 7114 Beast
Been running the ES-58 for almost 2 years now.
The FSIP is controlled by three very small pots with a small screwdriver. I've never touched mine since getting it from Scottyb; I haven't needed to. |

Ok, thanks for all the info. If I end up getting the ES-58, I'll follow up about it here.

Re: D&D ES-58 or AMD 7114 Beast
Talked with Vic for a few minutes and have the ES-58 on the way. $565 plus shipping.
Next step up from the ES-58 is ES-5A. (At least as far as torque motors go). It is a super high torque motor. 14mph. He said if I wanted to feel the power in the butt dyno, I would possibly be disappointed. Apparently when you get so far over the line in the torque department, the feel of power changes. I can't remember how he described it and I don't want to misquote him so I won't try. This may have been the reason for my dissatisfaction with the PQ Godzilla motor, idk. |

Re: D&D ES-58 or AMD 7114 Beast
Also, interestingly, Vic said that a golf cart battery pack can provide only so many amps, regardless of the controller size. It was like 525 or something in that neighborhood. I might start a thread on the topic for my own curiosity because if this is true, whats the need for 600 or 700 amp controllers in a golf cart? Makes sense when I see various retailers that have performance packages that most commonly include 500 amp controllers...

He told me the same thing. That's why I asked about the health of your pack. I think you'll enjoy that motor. It's the perfect balance for what I wanted, a lot of torque with just enough speed.
Report back with you thoughts on it once it comes in. |

Re: D&D ES-58 or AMD 7114 Beast
Will do. Although he didn't specifically say in an all out negative way, Vic doesn't prefer Alltrax controls. He prefers a particular Curtis control for its durability and said it's been a long time since they've made a sale on an Alltrax. Due to the timeline he described, it sounded like it may have been the introduction of the SPM when he lost taste for Alltrax. He said they sold a lot of the AXE, DCX, etc. The SR is supposed to be more trouble free, similar to the previous models prior to the SPM so hopefully I don't have issues. If so, I'll be looking at the FSIP.
