Default Front End Troubles...Bearings?

2006 Precedent. How do you test for shot bearings compared to say worn bushings? Front tires seem to point in different directions and different angles with each turn of the steering wheel. Neighbor thinks it is the bearings but I'd like to isolate the problem instead of shotgun approach.

Do I jack it up and see if there is play in the hub?

Also if one side is bad and not the other should you change bearings on both sides?

While you have it jacked up checking the bearings, I would all so check the tie rod ends for play.

Nsane Thank you for responding! Let's pretend for a moment that I do not have a clue how to properly check " check the tie rod ends for play."

How would you simply describe the proper method of checking the tie rod ends for play?

With each side up separately the passenger wheels turns extremely free. Almost as if it has anti-gravity properties. A little push must have turned it twenty times. The driver side turned maybe two or three rotations with the same force. They were both very quiet with no grinding or rubbing sound.

There was almost no play with either wheel. Is the difference between the two in spinning free mean anything?

Jack up one side at a time, grab the tire by the front and back then wiggle it left to right and watch the tie rod end, there should be no movement in it. Hope that helps and yes I have seen wheel bearing act that way, they sound okay to me.
