I think my G2 had temporary blow-by?
So I know this is gonna sound weird but I think my G2 had a temporary blow-by issue. So here is the story. Bought a g2 with bad rings(smoking like crazy) about a year ago. Rebuilt engine and everything was running great with an UNI pod filter. About 2 weeks ago I switched to a KN pod filter with pre-charger. Everything seemed to be running fine and then all of a sudden I got some smoke coming out of the valve cover vent tube and started losing power. I stopped driving it and trailered it home and decided to start checking everything. Set the valve lash and changed the oil looking for any gas in it but didn't see any. Tried running the cart again and It didn't smoke but would bog down under load. Finally checked compression and while it was a tiny bit low, nothing that should make a huge difference. The spark plug was covered in carbon so I switched it out and ran the cart a bit in neutral and everything seems fine. Spark plug looks good so I think my mixture is good.
So here is the thing, Is temporary blow-by possible? Like if the gaps in the rings lined up for a couple seconds or something? It just seems so strange to me that it smoked for a couple seconds and now is perfectly fine or at least seems that way. |

Did you happen to check oil level before you changed it? It doesn't take much over one quart in the crank case to make these things start smoking

Re: I think my G2 had temporary blow-by?
I didn't check the oil level but I made sure to fill it with one quart only after I drained it. In any case I just tried out the cart and it no longer bogs down when driving. the biggest thing to figure out now is why it isn't going as fast as it once was. In neutral everything shifts perfectly, but when driving it doesn't want to seem to go all the way into the highest gearing. It is also making a loud rattling noise when driving making me think something maybe wrong with my primary clutch. Thoughts?

Pull the dust cover off of the primary clutch and visually inspect for broken parts.

I'll go check it out right now. One thing I did notice is that the sliding side of the primary clutch seems to have a lot of play on the shaft. As in I can wobble it on the shaft.

Re: I think my G2 had temporary blow-by?
So I just checked it out and nothing looks broken to me but there was some grease on the inside of the cover. Some bushings definitely look worn and I did notice that the face of the clutch is pretty severely dished so it might be time to replace regardless. Any thoughts on the performance clutch from CPP?

Ron, I bet has it right with taking the dust cover off. I bet one of your weights has let go and is flopping around. The cart will rev up but will not go near as fast.

So I looked and none of the weights look broken, I even revved it up without the cover and nothing went flying.

but it wobbles? I bet it needs a new bushing. Give it a shot or 2 of grease.

Tried giving it a shot of grease and I don't think any actually went in! Not sure if the fitting is clogged or if the entire assembly is messed up. It's looking more and more like it might be needing a new clutch
