Default Melted battery terminals

Have a 2012 CC Precedent 48 volt that I had to replace 3 batteries in the last month due to knowledge I learned here from lots of great folks. Need y'all again. The battery terminals of all three new batteries melted. I still have 3 of the other older batteries and they are just fine. I have been on a weekly battery check since I learned about how important it is for weekly maintenance. I checked them this morning after riding last night and noticed the terminals were melted. I think you can see by the pictures I added. What would cause the terminals to melt on the new batteries but nothing happens to the old ones? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Why is there nothing connected to the (-) post in the 2nd picture? The Black plastic shipping guard is still in place...

I also see dirty rusty looking connections in picture, they need to all be bright and shiny. Least take a wire brush to your connections before making them up...

Noticed that negative terminal too...

What is the pack voltage with all batteries hooked up temporarily? You won't need to tighten them securely but don't try to run it yet. Just read the total pack voltage. It should be a minimum of 48.5 volts with a DVM.

This is a stupid question but are you SURE all 6 batteries are connected in series, daisy chained negative to positive in each case?

How balanced is the pack? What is the voltage reading for each individual battery? ...and which of those is a new or old battery? It is pretty unusual to replace only three batteries. Normally if three are gone the others aren't much better so you replace the whole pack. Maybe it's trying to pull too much amperage from the new batteries because the old batteries can't keep up. That combined with dirty/rusty connections and maybe incorrect tightening is enough to melt the terminals. Just thoughts but the pack definitely needs to be balanced or your lovely new batteries won't last as long as they should.

Luckily you have dual terminals on these batteries. I have used these terminal converters. They clamp on the post and the bolt it threaded into a thick base.

This converter adds another layer of connection but I fell it is more secure a screw. Check it out.
