Re: Another melted terminal saga
I understand that, but the previous owner apparently didn't. He had a problem with it not running before I got it. He pulled the motor, thinking it was bad, and broke the brushes in the process. If you had seen the wiring on this thing, it would be fairly easy to see why it wouldn't run.

Re: Another melted terminal saga
And do not use the split kind of lock washers...heat causes them to lose their tension...especially the Chinese made lock washers...when they collapse the wires vibrate loose and...well you know the rest.

No lock washers, but good advice.

Re: Another melted terminal saga
One is the back of the charging receptacle, complete with alligator clip. One is the homemade terminal that was on the motor, then notice the nail holding the microswitch.

Re: Another melted terminal saga
At least the nail is just a mechanical thing, not electrical.
A person with that level of knowledge and mechanical ability shouldn't be allowed to lift a tool. I'm glad it has now got a competent owner who can give it the TLC it deserves. Good luck |

Re: Another melted terminal saga
Actually, that homemade copper tube terminal doesn't look as bad as I expected it to look. The previous owner certainly had some brass ones with the alligator clip though.
Don't feel bad, I have restored about 5 old HDs now and those carts can be Mickey Moused a million different ways. I have seen some weird stuff, that's for sure. Then again, I have stumbled across some genius work-arounds here and there as well. Perhaps we need a "crazy stuff you have found when working on a cart" thread. |
