Magic smoke pd2 charger
Okay this is strange to me
06 cc precident PQ0628-648815 with Power Drive 2 charger. I went for a ride in freezing temperatures pack voltage was 50.8 volts. About one mile into the ride I noticed my pack voltage was hitting 42 volts. Came home and plugged in the charger and nothing happened. The breaker was tripped, unplugged the charger from the cart. Reset the breaker (run /tow was in TOW) plugged the charger back into the cart and pop pop smoke from the charger. I took the cover off of the charger ( unplugged as safe of course) found nothing wrong. Checked all connections with my Fluke. Plugged the charger into the wall attached to the cart and the charger came on after a brief period the charger turned off and back on,like normal. Charging at 7 amps. Battery voltage was: batt 1- 13.26, batt-2 13.26' batt-3 13.22' batt-4 13.24. Batteries are Trojan date code J4. There was a spider web inside the charger, is it possible I let the smoke out of the Spider? This cart has never had any problems until tonight. Hopefully someone has seen something crazy like this before. Thank you in advance. |

Re: Magic smoke pd2 charger
Lol! Or dirt/dust was built up on the transformer and the heat quickly burnt it off. Kind of like when the heat strips in your HVAC unit kicks on for the first time during winter....

Re: Magic smoke pd2 charger
More experienced guys will comment on this, but I think the charger should be charging at around 15 amps initially. 7 amps might be half of what you need.
Possibly one of the rectifiers blew. |

Re: Magic smoke pd2 charger
I thought the charge rate was low. I could not find a manual for the power drive 2 charger. I will contact one of the sponsors and order whatever they recommend. I will take batt readings again this morning after the recharge and see what I have. Happy New Year!

Thanks Tom47 I saw that and read it. I didn't know if the Power Drive 2 manual was different than"Power Drive and Power Drive 3"
