Default G16 Hard start after warm up

Father in law bought what looks to be a 96 G16 (sn JN6-003749). Previous owner said fresh overhaul. Runs great, stop and start for about an hour. Actually used for golf, 6 holes. After that, cranks and cranks, choke no choke, mashed to floor or barely pushed. Might be 15~60 seconds then finally hits and runs great. Next time stopped, same thing. This has happened on two different days. Did not have starter fluid with to try to give it a huff to see if fuel problem. Didn't have spark tester or plug wrench to take plug out to see if sparking. Tried screwdriver in plug wire, didn't see spark, but not sure if getting a good connection in boot or close enough to engine case to get a spark. Took output fuel line off of fuel pump and got good pulses of fuel, but not sure if gas cap was taken off before checking, wondering about gas tank vent. Do these carts vent through the cap or is there another vent on the tank. Any other ideas, trying to help him out over the phone when it is not running is kind of frustrating, doing the best I can. All thoughts appreciated.

Usually this one is a TCI (the coil). Get only the legit Yamaha one, none of the China stuff.
