Adjusting Driven Clutch for Ramp Wear?
Secondary sheaves look OK but the helix ramps are worn. The plastic shoes are OK but the aluminum ramps have some rutting. Do I understand that the spring tang can be installed in different holes to advance or retard by preload? Is so can I simply advance my spring to help make up for ramp wear?
Just purchased a new primary clutch so would like to get a little more use from secondary before reopening my wallet. Thanks Byron |

This is just thinking out loud more than anything, but is it something you could take apart and use a disc grinder or may be a Dremel to smooth it back Out? Worst case it doesn't work and you need to replace it anyway...

Re: Adjusting Driven Clutch for Ramp Wear?
The plastic shoes are still fine, but they've worn a rut down each opposing ramp. So I could definitely whittle down the high edges of the ruts but that wouldn't raise the ruts.
The more I consider how it works the less I believe the ruts have diminished the pre-load. What they may do is result in non-linear behavior since the ramps are mostly worn in the middle. This makes the last part of the ramp steeper, I suppose. Might make it more difficult for the belt to get into highest speed ratio. A triple-helix would be tricky to re-profile so all three shoes make continuous contact through the entire range of motion. |

Gotcha. I was just thinking to smooth out the ruts a bit and get a little smoother action/little more life before you replace it. :)

Re: Adjusting Driven Clutch for Ramp Wear?
The ruts are remarkably smooth, just out of shape from original profile. I suppose I'll leave it alone until I'm ready to pay for a new driven clutch. Just bought a Primary so not in a hurry to open the wallet again.

Believe me I hear that! My primary is pretty dished out but still drives and accelerates smoothly. Once it starts misbehaving I'll have to replace it but not in a hurry :) |

Re: Adjusting Driven Clutch for Ramp Wear?
Agree with this 100% I cringe when people say the shave off the ramps there's no way you will get the same degree on each of the three ramps and this will just cause faster wear and poor performance clutches are the most over looked wear item on carts people will buy $500 worth of tires and rims they look cool but have worn out poor performing clutches

Re: Adjusting Driven Clutch for Ramp Wear?
Burrito Cinco will stay pretty basic. Indulged in a back seat, windshield and lights before clutches. And it ran OK. But I know it's not getting into top ratio with worn clutches and belt.
Clutch came right off. Didn't need the puller bolt (wish I could have that $20 back). |

Re: Adjusting Driven Clutch for Ramp Wear?
That bolt is nice to have though it works for almost all the Yamahas... Make sure you clean up the shaft and make sure it's completely dry when installing the new clutch
