Pictures of rear-ends
Yeah, not what you guys are thinking.
I am looking to eventually upgrade my 86 Marathon to modern electronics and I need to know which rear-end I need to look for. Aparently the one I have is not compatible to modern motors because it has a keyed male shaft on the armature and the new motors all have a splined female couple that connects to the gears. I have a guy who has a couple I am going to look at, but I need to know what I am looking for before I get there. Can someone please attach a picture of the kind of rear end I would be looking for that will bolt into my Marathon? |

Re: Pictures of rear-ends
Any electric marathon newer than yours should have the Dana axle you would want. It has a metal pan on the bottom.

Re: Pictures of rear-ends
OK, but I would like to know what it looks like in case the ones he has have been swapped at some point. That's the biggest issue I am running into is that the majority of the metal bodied carts that I can find around here have been pieced back together so many of the parts are not original.
The pan seems like a likely identifying feature, but as these are setting in deep weeds, the only thing easily seen is from the top, and I would like to get pictures of key identifiers besides the pan. I know it would be pretty easy to move a cart with no batteries, but I want to make it easy on the seller to send me pictures and I don't want to ask him to do too much more than snap a picture. Thanks! |

Re: Pictures of rear-ends
Marathons had three different rear axle.
Pre 1986.5 had motor in front. 1986.5 - 1987 had sideways mounted motor on top of axle with split case transaxle. 1988 and later had sideways mounted motor on top of axle with one piece case transaxle with removable bottom pan. The attached parts manuals may help |
