Changing batteries
Good evening.
It may be a silly question but I have to ask. Will downgrading from Trojan ranger 160’s to t875’s effect overall performance? The golf cart has very low gears and an updated controller. It’s very fast. However the batteries have slowly died Down to next to nothing. I can get a set of t875’s for $600. Trojans are $1200. Thank you. |

Re: Changing batteries
Only difference will be the run time. No effect on speed or durability. They are both Trojan batteries.

Re: Changing batteries
How did the Ranger 160's serve you? How old are they? The T-875's have less lead so the weight will be less than the 160's but will not last as long. I was thinking of going to the Ranger 160's but still on the fence due to concerns that my Power Drive charger will not properly charge them based on their algorithm.

Re: Changing batteries
Hunter,
I bought the cart used and got about 4 months out of the batteries. They are from January 2015. Not sure how “bad” they were when I got them. Sorry, not much help. |

Re: Changing batteries
I have Ranger 160's and no regrets. For me, they were well worth the price. We can drive our cart an easy 20 miles a day, and have never been stranded. They are 2016 batteries and still go a long time on one charge. Well worth it.....
PS: I rarely take the pedal off the floor, street cart, and $600 for a set of 875's is a really low price. Make sure they are not refurbished .... |

Re: Changing batteries
Samuel - If those 160's are 2015's, I would try to revive them. Will they take a charge? Make sure the plates are covered with distilled water, check and record voltage of each battery then start cooking them with the charger. You may find out that only one battery in the pack is the culprit and you don't need to replace the entire pack.
danny- thanks for info on the your Rangers. I'll be replacing my pack in the next 6 months and it's good to know a 20 mile brisk ride is doable. |

Re: Changing batteries
around here most of the dealers stock the t875s and have to order anything bigger
last spring, i drove 2 hours to get the best price on t875 batteries and came out right at $700 as mentioned 2015 batteries should have lots of life left in them unless they were run dry |

Re: Changing batteries
Wow that's wild. I'm in central florida and have three dealers within a few miles that all charge within a few dollars of each other for the t875's.
I'm going to drop the batteries off today to be load tested. Hopefully we just have a bad battery in the bunch. |
