Yes. These batteries are toast.

Had 36.8v to solenoid switch contacts and it would not close, "jumped" main contacts and it worked.

If you have a pack voltage of 35.6V, how are you getting 36.8V to the solenoid? Your batteries are bad either way.

There is a spec for that current peak and run time.
You may be exceeding it causing the solenoid to fail.

If your batteries sat for two years without attention they are probably bad.
Insure the charger appears to functioning correctly.

Take full pack voltage readings after charging and then again after 12hrs of rest.

Take individual battery voltage readings under a mild load like a on a up road climb.

The issue should show itself in the readings.

Post up the readings.
I know the batteries are shot, I think they set for 3-4 years, I should have replaced them before running the cart to test the new components I was replacing but I'm impatient. I'm considering going ahead with a solid state conversion and bumping up to 48v. You people are a bad influence on a mans checkbook. Thanks again for all the help.

I share your feelings about the checkbook. Nobody likes shelling out the dough for new batteries. But, that's what you have to do with these things.

When you get them, read up on (all in here) how to take care of them.

Knowing about their care has been helpful for me.

I bought this knowing that I would need to replace the batteries, I got it for $250, so the fact that I could even put a charge on the old batts was unexpected. Given what I want the cart to eventually become and the exposure to the potential for it I have gotten on this forum I think I'm going to go with the 48v solid state conversion. Stay tuned because I'm sure I'll have lots of questions along the way.

If you are considering a lithium upgrade and want to get the 48V conversion going,
you could try to locate a used pull out battery pack for awhile.
I know, might be hard to find. Really need to find a common set age wise.
Solid state 48V conversion is a good choice along with some good batteries.

I missed this last night, I disconnected the pack and charged each separately between those two readings.
