Default G1 no reverse

I have a Yamaha G1 that has been running fine for couple of years after motor overhaul. Now I have not reverse. The back up warning comes on and I can hear a click when the peddle is pushed down. But not turn over. It runs fine in forward.

Thanks

Probably need a reverse solenoid. That is one of the two big fat ones on the right rear plastic inner fender. My cart clicks when you push the gas pedal even with the ignition switch off so that click you're hearing is a different relay and seems to be working.

So is there a way to test the part?

You can use a meter to check ohms between the small terminals of the solenoid, after disconnecting the wires from it. Or, you can swap it with the forward solenoid. Maybe the reverse solenoid is fine and there's a wiring issue elsewhere.

Yep. Just switch the wires from one solenoid to the other. If you then go in reverse but not forward then you know your R solenoid is bad. If you still go in F but not R then your wiring is fudged up.

Switch the 2 small wires only, no need to switch all the big wires.

I wish I had read the last post first about not changing all wires. But any way. I reverse by moving the solenoids. Before I moved them I noticed that the reverse sometimes moved the starter a little. After I switched the solenoids reverse now works. Forward moved slightly when released and let it release tried again and forward worked.
Can the solenoids be taken apart and cleaned? Can the contacts be dirty or corroded and the resistance be so high that it works some times and not others?

I believe it would be best to replace rather than refurbish
