Would it be more likely to be the pickup coil or igniter?

Not really much to go wrong with the pickup coil. Easy to check the resistance and either rule that out or condemn it. I'd put my.money on ignitor.

For the $30 I went with HEI upgrade and its run like a champ ever since then

There is no "test" for an ignitor. Just test by replacing with a known good unit.

See my post "G9 sputters and dies, stumped" or something like that. Post #26 on page 3 will give you all the infontou need.

I'd put a paint mark ar TDC on the drive clutch. Use a timing light. Mine would show consistent a little advanced while running right, and as soon as it would start to sputter the timing mark would jump all over the place. Ans once it died completely spark was pretty much gone. Not completely but almost. And definitely not at the right time like it was before. But if I let off the gas for a second, and then pressed it again it would change and I would have spark. But times wrong. I had to run it and watch the timing mark until it died, watching the timing light the whole time. When it quit, there was no spark.

I switched to a Chrysler ignition and have not had a problem since.

Check the pickup tube in the tank. Could be partially blocked or picking up the same piece of debris that drops back down after it stops running.

Fuel lines new?

Yes. I couldn't justify spending $350 for an OEM ignitor when I didn't even pay that much for the cart!

But I would definitely recommend using a timing light to verify. If it stays consistent when running and not running you may have something else going on (aftermarket carbs are known to cause issues) but if spark timing goes all funny and pickup coil tests good, pretty good chance HEI wilm have you up and running.

Also worth removing the fuel filter that's inside the tank. It's probably pretty deteriorated.

As far as fuel goes, since i changed lines, carb, and pump, i have ran the hose straight from a clean new gas can. Will check all again for debris because who knows sometimes. stock ignitor is 150 it seems now. I paid $145 for the cart with no carb. Awesome deal. but makes it hard to spend money on lol
