May have taken out the ignitor as well. try unplugging that and see if it pops the fuse. The cart won't run because it'll have no spark but if the fuse doesn't blow then ignitor is most likely damaged. Unfortunately there's no test in the book for the ignitor.

If the ignitor is bad, don't buy an aftermarket one. They're nothing but problems. I would either recommend going with HEI conversion or try to source a used OEM ignitor in the buy/sell section here. New OEM one is close to $400... way too much if you ask me.

Also is there a difference between a 1990 G8 & a 1991 G8 cart?
When I look up my serial number it falls into the 1990 range but when I looked up the voltage regulator most vendors showed the G8 starts in 1991 my serial number is JF2-001189

where id you get the voltage regulator from? sounds like its bad out of the box. It's doubtful but i guess possible something is damaged in the starter/generator that blew up the regulator. I'd try and swap with another regulator and see if it's just bad out of the box, certainly possible with the chinese ones.

I bought it off of eBay, the seller had several good reviews for the same voltage regulator but it was under $20.
