Need power source with key ON for G1
I have an unmodified gas G1. I'm trying to add head lights, brake lights, a horn. This is a requirement for the civic association in my neighborhood. The trouble I'm having is that there does not seem to be a source of power that is "on" with the key in either the Forward or Reverse position. Anyone solve this issue, or am I wrong in that? Thanks in advance.

Re: Need power source with key ON for G1
The wiring and the key switch on the G1's are funky because the engine runs backwards for reverse, and issues with the chassis ground. You don't want to run wires off of your stock G1 key switch.
I recommend wiring everything directly from the battery and have separate switches for each accessory. Use a fuse block to keep it nice and tidy. When you mount all your switches, have a separate key switch that turns the whole accessory bank off, or use lighted rocker switches so you can tell if you left something on. Brake light switches can be fitted to your brake pedal fairly easily with some light fabrication. Find a brake light switch from a 70's car, most work the same way, and wire it to your brake lights. Reverse lights might be able to be wired into the reverse solenoid, but I've never done this. |
