Default 87' ClubCar 36v Lester II charger fuse

Rehabing an 87' 36v ClubCar. Came with a Lester II 36v charger. Found that the fuse was blown on charger face.(25 amp). Replaced, & fuse instantly blew. Any clue as to where to start looking for the culprit here ? Plugged my other charger in to this cart & all went well... (1 yr. old battery's, all tested well.)
I will say that the fuse I put in was a used 20 amp, not a 25 amp & figured at the time that, if there was bigger issue's here, the 20 was a better option than an available 40 amper, & an explosion...
Any takers' here ?
Thanks.

Sounds to me like there is an internal short within the transformer of the charger...

Is the fuse on the AC side (connected to the AC power cord that plugs into the wall) or the DC side, the output charge cord that connects to the cart?
The DC charge fuse is in a clear plastic or glass case and should have a large U shape.

What model number is the charger? The Lestronic 2 was a popular charger and they have a diagnostic guide on Lester's website, if that's the charger you have. https://lesterelectrical.com/wp-cont...ing-Guide-.pdf

Thanks for the reply. Been layin' on the garage floor for a few days & didn't your message...
The fuse is on the DC side of the charger front panel.
It turned out being the "heat sink/diode board".
Snagged 1 out of a donor charger & replaced another fuse which took care of the problem.
It's a 36v "Lestronic II mod#07850"
