I don't understand how this can happen , if they are in series and the POS comes in on one side and the ground goes out the other . then how can a battery be skipped unless it is wired wrong or backwards or has another path to ground ??????

The wires from the charge receptacle need to go to the positive of battery one and the negative of battery six. This will "see" all six batteries in the series string. If either wire is not on it's correct post the charger will "see" less than 6 batteries. It will charge the 5 remaining batteries to 36v (way over for the 30v sub-pack) and the cart will run. Those 5 batteries won't last long, and the number 6 battery will never get a charge.

It can happen. Folks make all sorts of mistakes. People drive through red lights, burn themselves, trip and fall. Chit happens.
